George Lewinnek, M.D.

Dr. Lewinnek grew up in a small town in Wisconsin that is not that much different from this area. His father was a family practitioner. Dr. Lewinnek attended Harvard Medical School and the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency program. Other medical experiences included two years in the Air Force, three months with Project Hope in Jamaica, and two years in Chicago, teaching at Northwestern Medical School and working with the spinal cord injury unit. He first came to this area in 1984, at the urging of Drs. Hawkins and Manalan with whom he had trained. Like all of the other orthopaedic surgeons in town, he takes general orthopaedic calls in the emergency room and has had broad training, but increasingly his practice has involved problems of the spine—the neck and the low back.

Dr. Lewinnek takes regular continuing medical education courses on the spine, including several courses at the only two cadaver surgical training centers in the country, and he attends the North American Spine Society meeting annually. He is also a member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is board certified by the Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Mary, Medical Secretary, is the first person whom you will see coming in and the last person you will see going out. Mary's pleasant energy makes the administrative complexity of medical care possible. She makes appointments, arranges tests and referrals, schedules surgery, and makes sure that we all do what the insurance companies and HMO's need us to do.

Susan, Office Manager will assist you with insurance and billing problems. She may fill in for Mary at the front desk.

Pam and Kathy, X-ray Techs, assist medically by showing you to your examining room, helping you with the medical forms, as well as fitting crutches and braces.
